dying gardenia and hibiscus

My husband bought a couple of gardenias and hibiscus about a month ago we live in Denver Colorado. He would put them outside in the day and in at night. Yes it got cold and yes it snowed. The leaves are all falling off the hibiscus and the gardenias still have about 2 hand full. I am trying to save them. Is there anything I can do? I was thinking of cutting them back? I advised him to leave them inside. HELP is there any?

If it was cold enought to snow, then I think you already know the answer. Don't cut back. Just keep them in a good spot (sun for the hibiscus, afternoon shade for the gardenia), keep them watered, and see what happens.
