Dead Gardenia plant?

I planted a gardenia plant in a large pot on my front porch. It gets plenty of sun. The leaves are brown and falling off. We live in South Texas and have very mild winters so it didn't freeze. How can I bring it back to life?

Some gardenias are tropical and need winter protection even in South Texas, so that could be the reason your leaves are brown and falling off. I'd also check the soil to make sure it's not too dry and not too wet.  Make sure the drainage is adequate but that the plant doesn't dry out either.
