damage to my trees

hi i have rabbits and they chewed the bark off several of my trees will this hurt them?

If the bark has been removed all the way around the trunk, the tree will be killed by this damage. They may leaf out this spring, but the roots will starve because the phloem (food conducting tissue) has been removed. If the damage extends only about 1/4 of the way around the trunk, the tree likely will survive. Damage in between those two extremes will likely result in stunting of the tree.
