Can I keep a hydrangea as a houseplant?
Submitted by BHGPhotoContest

Although potted bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla) is sold in spring with houseplants, this shrub isn't suited for growing indoors (unless you have a greenhouse or conservatory). Treat it as a short-lived gift plant (much like cut flowers), or plant it outdoors after you have enjoyed its blooms indoors. Outdoors, the plant prefers well-drained soil and a sunny spot that sees some shade during the hottest hours of the afternoon. Most hydrangeas bloom only once a season, though some newer selections, such as Endless Summer, bloom throughout the summer.
