Bushes for afternoon sunny location

I have a bordered area in my backyard that gets a lot of afternoon sun. At one time there were some nice evergreen bushes that were slow growing, which was perfect for the limited area, but they succumbed to a bad winter. I am looking to refill the area and wondered what would do well there. It is an area about about 3' x 10', so size matters!

A few of these shrubs would fill the bill in your area: Buxus sempervirens (common box), Euonymus fortunei (wintercreeper), Ilex opaca (American holly), and Ligustrum ovalifolium (California privet). Also, try Mountain Laurel (Kalmia Latifolia), Azalea, Forsythia and Fernbush (Chamaebatiaria millefolium).
