What's the best time of year to split grasses?

Most of the tall ornamental grasses are warm season grasses. The best time to divide them is in early spring just as growth is beginning. The easiest way to do it, is to dig up the entire clump, and slice through it with a sharp spade or saw. Often you can divide a large clump into 4 or more plants.
