You can grow almost anything in an 8X5 foot patch of land. Exceptions would be sprawling vines such as pumpkins and squash, or sweet corn, which needs to be planted in a large block for pollination. In preparation for next year's planting, work on removing weeds now. If there are perennial weeds, spray the area down with glyphosate (or smother weeds with black plastic mulch). Add organic matter such as compost to loosen soil and improve its quality.
