Soil near black walnut trees

Can I add anyting to my soil next to where a black walnut used to grow? The tree is cut down, but the stump still remains, yet I still cant get any veggies to grow in the proximaty

The toxicity from walnuts is caused by juglone, a compound produced in all parts of the walnut tree. There isn't any product that counteracts the effects of the juglone. It will break down over time, but as long as the plant residue (including the decaying roots) is present, you can expect growth of vegetables to be affected. In the meantime, you could grow vegetables in containers or raised beds on top of the existing soil.
