how and when do I prune my climbing rose which is on a trellis. macon, ga

You can prune climbing roses during late winter or early spring. Cut lateral canes (side shoots) back to about 6 inches in length. Completely remove some of the oldest canes by cutting them back to the ground, or if the rose hasn't produced new canes from near ground level, cut them back to the lowest lateral branch.
