2 plants growing together

I have an arbor where I planted a clematis on either side. The clematis did not do well at the site so I transplanted it to another location. Thought I got the whole plant - apparently not. Planted a Lady Banks rose to replace the clematis. The Lady Banks rose is doing very well, but I noticed the clematis is coming up along with it. Will the clematis choke out the rose or will they do OK together?

Surprisingly, they should do well together...remember, clematis like to have their "feet in the shade and their head in the sun," and eventually the lady banks could smother it, but I actually think it's worth waiting and see how they do together...growing roses and clematis together is a classic garden combination...let me know what happens.
