pruning mums

my fall mums bloomed in the spring, should I prune so I have blooms in the fall? How?

By cutting off the faded flowers, you'll also be "pruning" or "pinching" the mums. Normally this should be done by July 1, but you should be fine if you go ahead and do so right away. Just snip off the tips of the stems; don't cut back severely.
