POKER PLANT CARE
WE HAVE A SHENANDOAH RED-HOT POKER PLANT. IS THIS PLANT SUPPOSED TO BE PRUNED BACK IN THE FALL? IN THE SPRING, IT LOOKS TERRIBLE. THE PLANT IS FULL OF BROWN, DRYED LEAVES, ESPECIALLY ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PLANT. MOST OF THE OTHER LEAVES ARE BROWN ON THE ENDS.IT HAS LOTS OF NEW LEAVES UNDER ALL THE UGLY ONES. IT IS ABOUT 7 YEARS OLD & IS PLANTED IN FULL SUN HERE IN PENNSYLVANIA.
Thanks for writing. This plant usually grows fresh from the roots every year, so you can cut it back to the ground every spring. It'll grow new foliage and have a much cleaner look that way.
