How far to trim dead flowers from salvia to encourage regrowth?

We have what was labeled as MEADOW SAGE. It is a perennial and the paper with it said to trim dead flowers to encourage regrowth. My question is how far down the 2 to 3 inch bloom should I cut off?

As soon as the bloom stalks lose their color, just trim them all the way off the plant, basically giving the plant a buzz cut. They should regrow new flowers before fall.
