Can you split a bromeliad?
Did the central mother plant flower? It's normal for the flowering plant to die down after bloom, and for side shoots to take over. These offsets, or "pups", can be separated from the mother plant to start new plants. Slice through the main stem to remove pups. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone. Pot the offset in a lightweight soilless mix and keep it moist but not soggy. In a few weeks, new roots should form.
