Aloe Vera Transplants

A friend is landscaping with Aloe Vera; I offered to cut his costs by sharing some babies from our zillions. I plan to dig them up a few at a time, put them in pots, and he can plant them at his "leisure." They may be in the pots for a few weeks or so. Do I need to use the special "cactus potting mix" for these brief transients, or will "regular" potting mix be ok? My soil is jackhammer-hard clay...not suitable for even temporary transplants. I live on CA Central Coast (93436), zone 8 (?).

Regular potting mix should be fine as a temporary holding medium for the aloes. The main thing will be to make certain that they don't get overwatered.
