Yellow spotty leaves on iris

Montana zone 4: My large beds of iris have yellow leaves with brown spots. Dug 3 years ago. Lots of blooms. Why the leaf problem?

Hi, It sounds like your iris has Rust. It's a fungal disease that's appears in the spring when it's very wet and cool out. Also, wind and rain spread the disease from plant to plant. It may kill some of your plants' foliage, but it generally won't kill the plants themselves. You can control it with a product such as Scott's Lawn Fugus Control applied every week for about three weeks. Also, if you water or use spray irrigation, do it in the morning so the plants dry out before nightfall. There are also rust-resistant iris varieties available.
