White fuzz on Clivia

I have 4 Clivia plants that I put outside in the summer and store in the basement in the winter. I live in Buffalo, NY and I battle this fuzzy white growth on my leaves. What is it and how can i get rid of it for good.

Thanks for writing. The fuzzy white growth sounds like powdery mildew, a very common disease. Powdery mildew likes humid conditions with still air --- so anything you can do to encourage better airflow or make the air drier should discourage the disease.

There are some sprays, such as neem oil, that can be effective in deterring powdery mildew. Look for neem oil at your local garden center and follow the instructions on the packaging when using it.

Thanks for writing. Good luck!
