Can I plant lavender in desert southwest in August? Alicia

If you do any summertime planting, the plants are likely to stress very easily. When garden centers run great clearance sales, it might be worth a try, but generally, planting perennials should be done in either spring or fall. The cooler spring and fall temperatures allow the plant to focus its energy on establishing its root system, rather than working all through the hot summer day pumping water from a stressed root system up to stressed foliage.
