Vinca bare spots

What can I do about bare spots in my vinca area? It used to be a lush and full area, but each year there are more and more bare spots. I've tried fertilizing and mulching, but no success.

What is the pattern of bare spot development? Do the areas that dieback turn yellow first? Perhaps your vinca is infected with a fungal disease. If so, it may require preventative fungicide sprays to deter further dieback.

Normally, healthy vinca would spread and fill in occasional bare spots.
