Pining for peonies in the South

Although I now live in a small town in Texas, I loved the peonies where I grew up in the cold North. Is there a special kind of peony that can be grown in warm climates?

Most peonies require a period of cold to grow and prosper. Gardeners in some colder-microclimate areas in central or north Texas may have occasional luck with peonies, but in general they don't grow well in your area.
