These orange and black caterpillars are the larvae of the gulf fritillary caterpillar. If you'd like to encourage more butterflies, leave them alone so the caterpillars will mature, pupate and turn into the butterflies. The passion flower vine can usually withstand the amount of defoliation that the caterpillars create.
