Overwintering hostas in pots, zone 4

I have 3 Hostas in pots that I would like to overwinter in zone 4. What should I do? Maureen

The surest and safest way to overwinter them would be to partially bury the pots in the ground to protect them from temperature fluctuations over winter. If burying is not possible, covering the pots with a thick layer of mulch would be a good idea. Also, if you have an unheated garage or outbuilding that remains above freezing but stays consistently cold (below 50 degrees F), you may be able to overwinter the potted hostas there.
