Iris not blooming

I moved some of my favorite Irises from central Michigan to southern Alabama 2 years ago. I planted them so they get afternoon shade,so they didn't get scorched by the hot southern afternoon sun. The foliage is growing nicely, but no flowers. I expected not to get flowers the first year, but why haven't they bloomed this year? Signed, Still learning to garden.

It's possible your Iris aren't getting enough sunlight. Even though your Alabama summers are much hotter than those in Michigan, the Iris probably need more than just morning sunlight. Another possibility is if they're Bearded Iris, they may be planted too deeply in their new home. Bearded Iris bloom the best when their rhizomes are at the surface to get some sun.
