Iris division

Is it too late to thin Iris plants and how do I do this?

Actually, the best time to thin iris is in the fall. September is a good time for most of the country. Simply dig up the clump and use a sharp knife or spade to divide the clumps into smaller sections, making sure each section has it's own fan of leaves. Then, clip the foliage back to about several inches tall and replant as soon as possible.
