How do I keep my lupines looking great?

How do I keep my lupines looking great? They seem to do well for a year or two, but then fade away. Help!

Sadly, lovely lupine (Lupinus) is not a particularly long-lived perennial. Most plants do well for only a few seasons; after that, they become too old to perform well. For beautiful lupines, grow new plants or seeds each year. That way, you'll always have a supply of young plants to replace the old ones. Many gardeners find that their lupines do this on their own if left to go to seed. Also be aware that lupines prefer cool climates. If summers are hot where you live, lupines will likely fail to thrive.

I have found that trimming them when they get too untidy helps and lots of yummy compost dirt. Buy a bag every now and then and sprinkle around the area. I also like to replant the seeds here and there to keep an ongoing supply. Hope this helps.
