Help with Dogwood Flowers

I found 2 Dogwood Flowers in my sons yard in Fort Wayne, IN , He told me to take them home so , I did. I tried to plant them in the yard an they are just drying out . What can I do to get this plant back to its nice beauty ?

Are these flowering dogwood trees that you dug up and transplanted? If so, how large were they? Did you take a soil rootball with them? The roots should not be allowed to dry out.
