EDIBLE POPPYSEEDS-WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?

WHERE DO POPPYSEEDS WE USE ON POPPYSEED MUFFINS COME FROM? I SEE SO MANY DARK CENTERED ORANGE ORIENTAL POPPIES BLOOMING THIS TIME OF YEAR-- I JUST WONDERED WHERE WE GET OUR EXPENSIVE SPICE POPPYSEEDS FROM? AND IF FROM AN EASILY ATTAINABLE FLOWERING POPPY--HOW HARD ARE THEY TO HARVEST AND THEN HOW DO WE PRESERVE FOR FUTURE USE??

Hi, They are the seeds of the Breadseed poppy, Papaver somniferum. They are close relative of the opium poppy and develop large, bold flowers on tall stems. You can buy them from a number of sources including Amazon.com, but there are more available on Annie's Annuals, www.anniesannuals.com
