Dead heading perennials

Am I supposed to dead head perennial salvia?

Perennial salvia will rebloom quicker and with a larger return bloom if you deadhead it as the flower spikes fade. Cut them off back at the foliage.

when I purchased asters they were flowering, now the blooms are over, should I dead head them for re-bloom?
