Butterfly Bush

I have a butterfly bush. It seems to barely have survived the winter, as it is all brown, except for the small amount of new life signs coming from the ground area. Do I need to prune the bush back? If so, how far? thank you, I live in Lisbon Falls, Maine.

As long as the butterfly bush is sprouting from below ground, it should come back just fine as the weather warms up. Cut it back to within a few inches of the ground.
