when to seed lawn

Hi, We live southwest of the city of St. Louis MO. We need to seed a large area of out lawn. Can we do that how or do we need to wait for warmer weather? Thank you, Pat

As soon as you can work the soil you can plant. If your soil is wet and cold hold off. You want the soil to crumble in your hands when you take a fistful. You don't want it to make a mudball when you squeeze it. But, once your soil is ready, you can go ahead and plant. Lawn seed will not be bothered by any late frosts.
