rusty powder in lawn

I live in zone 4.When I walk through my grass I get a rusty colored dust on my shoes. What is the cause and what can I do?? Will it harm the grass??

This is a fungal disease called rust. Often, the problem is not serious enough to warrant spraying with a fungicide, but in severe cases it can kill the grass. Some varieties are more susceptible than others, so growing resistant varieties is the best solution.
