remove a lawn

I have a huge lawn and want to remove about 60 feet by 12 feet to grow plants and assorted shrubbery. what is the easiest way to do this?

When I want to remove a patch of turfgrass, I spray the area with glyphosate (Roundup), then wait a week to 10 days, at which time you can dig up or till the sod and replant. Make certain that you get a formulation of Roundup that does NOT contain additional herbicides with residual action. Glyphosate alone will not remain active in the soil, but some newer formulations are mixed with additional herbicides to give a long-term effect.
