Planting Grass seed

I live in central Indiana. I need to plant grass seed where we buried a tube to take water away from the house down a slope. How soon can I plant now? Does it have to be a consistent temperature above a certain number, such as 60 or 79 degrees? I'm anxious to get started as I don't want rain to wash away the dirt and also have my dog ruin it all as soon as it is planted.

The earlier in spring that you start cool-season grass seed the better. You can sow fescue and bluegrass as soon as you can work the soil.
