lawn problem

My grass has a problem. When it is very sunny and hot I can see the blades turn a maroonish color and then it eventually dies, turning beige like straw. It's like it burns...this only happens in certain areas. Can you help please? Hauppauge, NY

Hi, Well during hot, dry periods, Kentucky Blue Grass does this naturally, going into a dormant state if it doesn't get enough water. You can do two things: water more often or replant with a mix of grass seed that includes Kentucky Blue Grass along with fescue, which stays green with less water. The two together are a good turf mix.
