How should I deal with the many rocks in my yard before I seed?

My yard has lots of rocks. How do I deal with them before I seed?

Rocks that are 2 inches or less in diameter can be covered with a 3/5-inch layer of quality topsoil. Grass seed should germinate and thrive just fine. Large rocks (those that are a few inches or more in diameter) will impede turf growth and give your lawn a rough appearance with uneven growth. Unfortunately, the only solution to dealing with these rocks is to remove them.
