dead patches of grass

My dog will mostly urinate right next to the patio, therefore, we have dead patches of grass all around the patio. Is there something I can treat the grass with to counteract this? I know I cannot re-train my dog to go elsewhere. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you. April

Hi, April. Get powdered gypsum from your local garden center. It's very inexpensive, and gypsum can help the excess salts from the urine flush down through the soil profile when it rains or the sprinkler runs. Even with gypsum and re-seeding the spots, I doubt you'll get grass to survive there if doggy constantly urinates in the area, but it's possible some of the lesser-used spots will recover.
