What is the best way to get rid of crabgrass

Submitted by dholme

Crabgrass is an annual weed that sprouts from seeds each year. The best way to control it is to put down a pre-emergent herbicide in early spring before it begins to germinate. Crabgrass usually starts to germinate when soil temperatures reach about 50F (10C). This often happens about the same time that forsythias bloom, although it can vary. Even if the optimum time has passed, you can still get some control by applying a crabgrass preventer now, because seeds continue to germinate even into late summer.
