What kind of flowers are recommended for south facing gardens in Toronto, Ontario, Canada area.

You have many, many choices of plants that would work in this situation. By your description of "south facing garden", I suspect that you mean it's in full sun and tends to be hot and dry in summer. Some annual flowers that would work well here would be zinnia, celosia, geranium, cosmos, rudbeckia, and petunia. Some perennials would be gaillardia, coreopsis, penstemon, ornamental grasses, Russian sage, and salvia.
