First, your should make some notes as to what trees, shrubs and perennials you two likes. Visit botanical gardens and independent nurseries and, again, make some notes as to what you like. Analyze your property as to soil type, drainage, exposure. Get books that pertain to your part of the country. Call in a professional landscape designer for a consultation--that's worth the price. In general, first, install trees, then shrubs. Along the way, you can fill empty areas with annuals. (We do not visit properties--we only answer questions to the best of our abilities.)
