Need suggestions for intense sun plants

Hi, I have 5 - 18" sq. box planters around my pool. They are in intense sun from late morning on. I want to grow some bright colored flowers that would be about 1 1/2 to 2 feet high, or even taller. Would zinnias be good? How about some type of daisy? I'd like a very full and bright look. I don't want a leggy or straggly look. Annuals or something I could winter in my basement would be good. Reds, pinks, yellows, whites, purples would look great. Thanks!

Compact zinnias should work well in this situation. The Zahara Series or Profusion Series of zinnias would work well. Annual vinca (Catharanthus) would be another excellent choice. Lantana is another possibility.
