Huge backyard, all dirt and rock

I live in Southwest corner of Wyoming. I have a huge back yard that is dirt and rock. It is beyond me on what I should do with it. We have a beautiful view of the mountains and the Green River so we don't want to loose that. We have grown kids and 2 large dogs..Any suggestions?

Thanks for writing. The advice I typically give for landscaping a blank slate is to first come up with a list of features that are important to you, then prioritize them. So for example, think about things like if you want to grow fruits/vegetables; if you want a patio for outdoor entertaining; if you need to plant for privacy; etc.

Once you have a list of things in mind, prioritize it. Pick the most important goal and start with that. Once that's well underway, then move on to the second goal, the third goal, and so on until your landscape starts to come together.
