Hardy plants for containers

I have a large second story deck on the east side of my condo. Gets sun till about 2PM. During the winter the area gets a lot wind. I have had good luck with hostas. What other suggestions do you have that will survive the winter in Portland, OR. I lost my cannas, bamboo, salvia and hardy gardenia this last winter. The pansies made it though.

How about Heuchera, lamium, ajuga, sweet william, sweet alyssum, and wallflower. Also, any number of sedums and succulents.
