Choosing the right SPIRAEA?
Live in Manhattan , Kansas. Looking to plant spiraea in the back of my house. But I see they come in diffrent sizes such as #1, #2 and so on. What is the diffrence? Plus I see the price range is anywhere from $5.95 to $35. What is the difference and what do you recommend?
Hi, When you see those numbers and different prices it just means that the size of the pot and plant is gradually getting larger. The bigger the pot and higher the price, the more the plant costs, but the more quickly the plant will look good in the landscape. It really comes down to how fast you want your garden to look finished. But, also keep in mind that some plants, such as spirea, grow quickly so getting smaller specimens might be the best way to go because in about two or three seasons they'll be full grown. But, with a slower growing species such as an evergreen, going bigger might be smarter if you don't want to wait so long for an established garden.
