Care of bearded iris

Please give me instruction on growing bearded iris. Mine bloom very little. I have rocky soil in East Tn. Should Iris be pruned and divided after blooming? Thanks.

Bearded iris usually benefit from division every few years. Late summer is the time to do so. Avoid cutting back the foliage, however, because the leaves are necessary to build up the rhizomes for next year's bloom cycle.

If your soil is rocky, iris may also benefit from addition of organic matter. They bloom best in full sun.
