Bare spot in front lawn

I have a huge magnolia tree approx. 15 ft from my house. Between the tree and house is all shade and nothing will grow there. What are some options for this bare spot as far as plants or ground cover that will grow in shade. I am also concerned that nothing will thrive b/c the Magnolia tree will rob the water.

Yes, that is a tough situation. I would recommend ajuga, which is drought and shade tolerant. Maybe put some rocks in there, too, so the ajuga can kind of spill over the rocks and make it look naturalistic. Be sure to aerate the bed if it is compacted.
