Backyard flooding

When it rains hard or after the snow thaws a portion of my backyard floods. I have drain tile and the water goes away in several hours or so...but I would like to plant there but not sure what I can plant. I am in zone 5, the site is part shade. Any suggestions?

If standing water clears within hours, you probably don't have any concerns, but if you do, there are a couple things you can do. Amend the soil with sand or perlite to help drainage. Or grow plants that like the extra moisture, such as cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis), yellow flag (Iris pseudacorus), willow, calla lily, canna, red-osier dogwood (Cornus stolinifera), and rose mallow (Hibiscus coccineus).
