Problem with fungus gnats

Can you please give me a solution to fungas gnats? They have caused a lot of grief. I have had to throw out some of my plants. I do not like the sticky little inserts for the soil as they take too long to solve the problem. I am currently using dish detergent and watering it into my plants.

Fungus gnats develop when they have decaying organic matter to feed on. Usually it's an indication that the soil is being kept too moist, so try cutting back on watering. The sticky traps that you mention can help keep the problem under control, but as you note, they're not a quick solution. There is an insecticide called Gnatrol which is drenched into the soil to kill the fungus gnat larvae.
