Purple fountain grass annual in Zone 6?!

Can i use mulch to cover my purple fountain grass in the winter so it will survive in zone 6? It was sold to me as a 'perennial'. I have since found out that this is not the case in zone 6.

You are not even on the borderline in Zone 6, so you might as well not try. Purple fountain grass is a Zone 8 and higher perennial. I used to live in zone 6 and found it easy to dig them up and overwinter divisions in pots in protected spots. But not in the ground.
