Pots that won't break while outdoors during snow and icy winter days

I want to start planting perennials in pots on my patio. I live in Louisville, KY and we do have snow and icy winters. Are there any pots / containers I can leave outside during the winter without them breaking? If so, what would these pots be made out of and how can I leave them on my patio during ALL my seasons?

Thanks for writing. You should be able to leave pots made from nonporous materials outdoors for winter, for example, metallic pots (if they're a naturally rust-resistant material or have been treated), wood, polyethylene (foam), and fiberglass.
