Planters in shady areas

What are some suggestions for low-maintenance plants for a shady front porch? I have two built-in planters that cannot be moved into a sunny area.

Hi,

Thanks for writing. Are you looking for annuals or perennials?

For annuals, it's tough to beat impatiens for big color in shady spots, but sweet potato vines usually do fine, as does browallia and many coleus. See great annuals for shade here.

As far as perennials go, you can't beat yellow corydalis for its long bloom season or variegated ferns, hostas, or ajuga for great foliage color. See top perennials for shade here.
